For wheelchairs users, steps and stairs are no longer an obstacle with the INDEPENDENCE® iBOT® 4000 Mobility System. You will feel secure climbing or descending a couple of steps, or even a full flight of stairs — indoors or out.

By rotating the wheels up and over each other and utilizing gyroscopes to maintain balance,
the iBOT® Mobility System can climb steps that range in height from 5” to 8” and in depth of 10” to 17”.   Stairways need to be straight, L-shaped or U-shaped with enough room on the landing for the iBOT® Mobility System to maneuver.

A trained independent clinician will determine if you can use the Stair Function independently or with assistance.

  Independent Stair Climbing:
Unassisted stair climbing in the iBOT® Mobility System requires the presence of at least one railing on the set of stairs or steps.  To climb, the user backs the iBOT® Mobility System up to the bottom step. While holding onto the railing(s) with both hands, a slight shift in your center of gravity will activate the iBOT® Mobility System to automatically climb one step. The triple redundant gyroscope system stabilizes the iBOT® Mobility System on each step as it climbs or descends the steps.  The pace of stair climbing is controlled by the user.

Assisted Stair Climbing:
If it is determined by an independent healthcare professional that independent stair climbing is not feasible,  an assistant may be trained to activate and control the iBOT® Mobility System during stair climbing.
